Symbolism: The blue wavy Y-shaped device, or shakefork, represents the Ottawa and Rideau Rivers, which have played an important part in the early settlement and economic development of the Ottawa area and are the prominent geographic features of the Ottawa-Carleton region. The sword is a reference to the European medieval martial arts. The boar is an extremely powerful and tenacious animal and the boar crest with its red tusks is a reference to these qualities, which the fighters of the OMSG wish emulate. Also, in medieval times, the boar hunt was considered one of the most dangerous and demanding for the skilled hunter and it was not uncommon to have participants die during it. Because of this, it was in many ways a rite of passage into warriorship. The silver rondel dagger suspended from a silver collar around the neck of the boar refers to the European medieval martial art of Fiore dei Liberi. Also, dagger fights both in armour and out, were almost always battles to the death.
