QUIRING, Leander  directory

QUIRING, Leander

Arms: Per pale Sable and Or, dexter: a lion rampant sinister of the second, sinister: a boar rampant of the first.
Crest: NA
Motto: Quod dignum sit facere, dignum est facere bene (If a thing's worth doing, it's worth doing well)
Flag: A banner of the Arms.
Standard: NA
Source: While Quiring arms do exist, they do not speak to Leander, even were he eligible to bear them. Instead, he constructed arms that spoke to him personally, representing elements of his personal past and present. This also follows a family tradition of disregarding family tradition.
Artist/Herald: ?? Quiring (Leander's sister)
Symbolism: The sable and or represent the colours of the University of Waterloo, as well as Leander's passion for technical theatre & his career in commerce. They also evoke the grain of Saskatchewan and the "Big Smoke" of Toronto, where he was raised and settled. The lion comes from his and his grandfather's name, Leander (leo andros), and by coincidence is his sign in the western zodiac. The boar is his sign in the Chinese zodiac, and an in-joke with his wife, who has a rather extensive collection of porcine tchotchkes. The animals are combatant to represent the tension of urban vs. rural, avocation and vocation, past and future.
