Mishaël Abia Lopes Cardozo

, is the president and founder of the European Medieval Combat Academy (EMCA) or Academie voor Europese middeleeuwse krijgskunsten (AMEK) has been training in various Asian martial arts, beginning with karate at the age of eight. During that time of martial arts training during the past ten years, Mishael has re-oriented his interest towards the study of the European middle ages. Along with the study of medieval culture in the form of cooking, art and music, he began training with the medieval longbow. This expanded to include other weapons of the period, beginning with a two-handed sword. Having founded European Medieval Combat Academy in August of 2002, the Academy is focused on the study and research and training based on historical treatises that include Sigmund Ringeck's commentaries on Liechtenauer, Hans Talhoffer, Codex Wallerstein, Solturner Fechtbuch and Flos Duellatorum.
