In the preface on the Gotha Codex (1467), I treated the development of fencing in the XV and XVI centuries; in the Ambras Codex (1459) I gave the description of the works of Hans Talhoffer but here I will only reproduce the original text.
In publishing the three parts of this work belonging to the most interesting of those treated in the history of the art in Germany in the middle ages, I have made it available to the public and in doing so I believe to have fulfilled the objectives which I set out for myself.
